Common Range and Stove Problems
Stove or Range will not heating: ELECTRICWhen the range or stove has quit heating, the problem is usually one of the following failures; Oven main control board, Oven temperature probe or thermostat, bake or broiler element failure.
Stove or Range will not heat: GASThe following gas stove or range components can cause this type of issue: Oven main control board, temperature probe or thermostat, the glow-igniter, or the gas safety valve are parts that can have these issues.
Stove or Range will not hold proper temperatureOn any stove, gas or electric, this type of problem is usually due to the failure of a temperature sensor or the Oven main control board.
Stove thermostat is not accurateWhen the temperature probe sends a signal to the electronic control board, the control board will make the necessary adjustments. When the temperature probe or ERC becomes faulty the temperatures can fluctuate drastically.
Stove or Range is not turning onThis type of problem can be a bit harder to isolate, it could be that the supply voltage to the unit has malfunctioned or failed. The range main control board can also be the source of this problem as well as the oven safety thermostat, also known as a thermal cut-off.
Stove or Range Error Code on DisplayStove or Range error messages are unique to each manufacturer; the display may read F-2 or F-3 on one brand meaning something entirely different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Inside of every range or stove there is a technical data sheet that will advise the appliance repairman what direct to go to fix the failed part. For these types of problems a trained technician is your best bet.
Oven door is not openingWhen this type of problem occurs it is generally after doing a self-clean. Temperatures inside the oven can reach as high as one thousand degrees during the self-clean cycle. From time to time this can be the cause of the oven temperature switches to fail thus sticking the door lock in a locked position. In situations like this a technician would need to unstick the door latch and make the necessary repairs.
Bake Or Broil Element failureWhen an oven bake or broiling element shorts out or sparks it is something to behold. Not only is it very loud when it fails, but it will make a bright flash like lightning. With this type of failure it is best to turn the breaker off and call a trained pro to inspect the unit for further damage.
